The Flood Will Bear You

The Flood Will Bear You” is a project I’ve been dedicating time to since 2020, but really began evolving for my senior thesis. The Synopsis is to the right, but more briefly, it tells the story of student Rory, her mentor Willow, and the way each interact with power.

I began by developing and solidifying the world around these characters, and when satisfied with the location, magic and political system, started working on the narrative. As of now, I have completed the introduction and a portion of the first chapter; about 28 pages.

The pages are all composed digitally in Procreate.

Synopsis:
In a fractured world where power comes at a devastating cost, one discovery could change everything— or destroy those who seek it.

With each passing day, Rory’s frustration grows as she struggles to master space manipulation. She knows she has the potential to be a great mage, but her mentor Willow— a brilliant yet guarded woman— seems intent on keeping Rory’s progress at a crawl. Though the two seldom see eye to eye, when Willow vanishes after accepting a research position at the prestigious Orthogon Academy, Rory’s frustration transforms into unwavering determination.

The governing Orthogon, long revered as the pinnacle of magical advancement, manipulates space, time, and lives to its will— and now they have her mentor. As Rory delves into forbidden knowledge and long-forgotten history, she uncovers disturbing truths about the source of a mages power— the mysterious Stones— and the devastating fate that haunts all who dare touch them. Caught between the Orthogon’s iron grip and centuries-old mysteries that refuse to stay buried, Rory must confront not only her own struggle with power, but that of the world she inhabits.

“The Flood Will Bear You” weaves a gripping tale of power, compassion, and the bonds that hold us together in the face of unraveling worlds— where not everything that offers salvation can be trusted, and some antidotes prove more destructive than the illnesses they claim to cure.

“Towards Our Sound” is a short Comic about a girl traveling into the forbidden woodlands, and what she encounters there. The illustrations were done digitally in Procreate.

Towards Our Sound

Overtures is a series of short comic stories completed during the Junior year of my BFA program, 2023. It serves as the predecessor of The Flood Will Bear You, my senior thesis project, and features two characters years before the main events of the narrative.

The comic was completed first as line art digitally, then printed with nearly transparent lines on watercolor paper. The individual pages were painted with watercolor and scanned, the line art edited back on top. It was then compiled, printed and encased in handmade bookbinding.
